Revolutions 2: More Speculative Short Stories set in Manchester
Revolutions 2: More Speculative Short Stories set in Manchester is my second anthology as an editor – a collection of science-fiction, fantasy and horror stories with one thing in common – they’re all set in Manchester, England.
Revolutions 2 is the second anthology published by Manchester Speculative Fiction Group, following on from 2015’s Revolutions: Speculative Short Stories set in Manchester
Who’s in it?
About half the stories are by local authors and half by authors from around the world. There’s a good mix of emerging writers getting a break and established authors, because we chose the stories on merit as the very best of hundreds of submissions. The authors are (in alphabetical order):
- Cathy Bryant
- Alex Gabriel
- Ekaterina Fawl
- Bryn Fazakerley
- Michael Fellowes
- Jeanette Greaves
- Matthew J. Hockey
- Tamsin Macdonald
- Wendy V. Mann
- Ste McCabe
- Marc Pirson
- Melanie Stott
- Katalin Szavai
- Thomas Trang
- Christopher Walker
Here’s a picture of three of the authors – Tamsin, Jeanette and Bryn – reading their work at the Revolutions 2 launch party on 17th April 2019:
What are the stories about?
Revolutions 2 features a variety of alternate worlds, extreme graffiti, a date with a Lego figure, overly-literal squids, a plague-carrying kitten, legendary Russian birds, a praying mantis that needs a job, giant bees, a ghost bus, virtual reality, zombies and time travel.
And, of course, there’s Stockport viaduct.
Manchester Speculative Fiction Group
Manchester Speculative Fiction Group was established in 2010 for writers interested in writing science fiction, weird fiction, slipstream, horror and fantasy.
Since then it has had many successes: several members of the group have had novels published so far, and others are on the way, having gained deals or agents. Others have won writing competitions and had short stories featured in magazines and anthologies.
Revolutions 2: Book Cover
I designed the cover using the process described in How to make a book cover.
